Well. What a great day. We enjoyed today with just the three of us. Matthew was up just early enough to not be a pain. He politely informed us that Santa had come, eaten all of his chocolate popcorn and left lots of presents. And “Can I have a bowl of Kix?” Kix it is kiddo. I think Matthew got everything on his wish list. Namely anything to do with Spiderman and Hot Wheels and a camera. We through in an iPod that Ann got for $20 from a friend at work. It’s a 1gen shuffle. Perfect for a 5 year old. And although Ann and I, because of mutual agreement, don’t exchange gifts for Christmas, I did buy her a telephoto lens for her new digital SLR. When she say the wrapped box under the tree, she immediately knew what it was. Bummer. But she likes it anyway.
Recently I started talking to an old friend. She and I were high school sweethearts (I think I can honestly say “first love) and hadn’t talked in years. Luckily, she is persistent and included me in her Christmas newsletter. Thank you, Jo. I hope that we continue to talk and get to know each other again. i owe her a debt that I most likely will never be able to repay. And I know that she and Ann will get along. It has been my experience that anyone who races triathlons, marathons or any other crazy endurance race, usually get along with each other. I think it is because these crazy people speak the same language.
Another friend of mine, a guy that I am stationed with, called me to thank me for his Christmas gift. Kyle and I have been friends for a few years now. We forged our friendship during Katrina relief efforts with many conversations over long, long hours while cleaning up the south, driving motor homes across Texas and making the long grueling drive back to Seattle as armed guards. I gave him one of my favorite types of gifts: a photograph. I had it framed and matted and it looked very good. Kyle and I have taken to giving each other presents on occasion for special occasions. I can think of no greater gift that to have a gift well received.
First blog of the upcoming year. More to come.
